Hello Ladies,
Today I received 7 more bolts of luscious fabrics from Moda.  They are from the Blueberry Crumb Collection.  The colors are an "almost" Columbia blue and a "milk shake" brown combination.  As you would expect from Moda, they are outstanding.
Also want to remind each of you that Sew & Sew Quilt Shop will be closed this Saturday, December 3.  My daughters and I will have a booth set up at the Hometown Christmas Festival near First Bank & Trust in Cleveland. Come by and visit us if you get an opportunity.  We will have lap quilts, table runners, napkins, decorated sweatshirts, bags and purses, fat quarters, tree ornaments, etc. for sale or for you to just look at.  Most of these items have been made in our shop and/or by our instructors.
We will start scheduling classes for the 2012 year soon.  If there are any particular classes in which you are interested, let me know so that they can be added to the schedule.  At this time, we are discussing dates for the free-motion quilting classes for some time in January.  I am also interested in having our Free Saturday demonstrations and Free Saturday quickie classes get off to a good start in January.  As soon as any classes are definitely scheduled, I will send out an e-mail. Due to the frenzy surrounding the Christmas holidays, we will not have any new classes in December.
Hope to see you all soon!

New this week

After several delays from production and shipping, the "Puttin' on the Ritz" collection has finally arrived.  Soft pinks (plaid, polka dots, and print) and luscious blues in various designs are just begging to be made into quilts, wall hangings, or table runners.  For those who prefer softer colors, as opposed to the bright, in-your-eye colors, this collection is ideal.  Lots more collections are ordered for delivery within the next few months.
The book Rotary Cutting Revolutions has also arrived.  You may remember that the pattern Laura Biano demonstrated is in this book. Several other interesting patterns are included in this book, and most of them are pretty simple.  Buying patterns individually gets to be pretty expensive, so a book that includes several gives you more "bang for your buck".
For now, the Fairy Tale Friends collection, the Funky Monkey collection, and the Puttin' on the Ritz collections are showcased on individual tables in the center of the shop.  Each of them is unique. Hope you will come by to check them out when you get spare time.
Look forward to seeing you soon,
Doris Caughman

October, 2011, has been a wonderful month for Sew & Sew Quilt Shop.  My month-long “maiden voyage” into the retail world has definitely been memorable.  My thanks to all the wonderful ladies who have walked through the front door, sat around the “kitchen table”, and shared stories with us.
Until now, I have only purchased Moda fabrics for inventory; however, I am in discussions with other vendors to consider their brands of fabrics to help widen your shopping choices.  I am well pleased with the Moda products and the services offered by them; however, I think it would be wise to have alternate suppliers to give you a better range of fabrics.
We have begun receiving charm packs and layer cakes, and jelly rolls are soon to follow.  The colors are so vibrant!  New collections are on order and will be shipped to us as soon as they are delivered to the factory.

We have several classes scheduled for November and December.  Among these are several classes on free-motion quilting, a rag quilted bag (purse or carry-all), double-slice layer cakes, and free classes on Christmas embellished sweatshirts and no-sew Christmas ornaments.  Other classes are being discussed but are not yet set at a firm date.  Please call me at 281.592.2021 to register for one or more of these classes.

As the holidays rapidly approach, you might want to start dropping hints about gift certificates from Sew & Sew.  They also make wonderful birthday (or any occasion) gifts.

I hope all of you will be able to attend the International Quilt Show at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston this week.  It has to be seen to be believed!

Each of you is invited to come into the shop, bring your sewing machine, and work on your unfinished projects on any day in which a class is not being held.  There is usually somebody in the shop if you need help with your UFO.

Drop by the shop whenever you get a few spare minutes.   Look forward to seeing you!

Our first class will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2011, from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm.  Connie Boles will be instructing on the Disappearing Nine Patch quilt or throw.  This is a pretty simple pattern but it looks really impressive when completed.  Be sure to register if you are interested.  Fabric requirements and cutting instructions are available at Sew & Sew Quilt Shop, 216 Hubert Street, Cleveland, TX.  You will need to have the cutting done prior to class, so be sure to allow time for this.
Laura Biano will give a free demonstration of Anita’s Arrowhead quilt on Friday, October 28, 2011, at the shop.  This will be at 11:30 am to accommodate those who have jobs.  Those who have been in the shop this week may have seen Laura’s gorgeous sample on display.  Bring two pieces of coordinating fabrics (8” or 10” square), and Laura will show you how to make a block in a jiffy.  Since the pattern is copyrighted, Laura will provide information regarding where to obtain this pattern.

The first week

Sew & Sew Quilt Shop’s first week under new ownership was a roaring success!  Thanks to all my wonderful customers and friends for your support.  Also thanks to my wonderful daughters and granddaughter for all their hard work in getting the shop up and running.
I have a new shipment of Moda fabrics to be delivered this Thursday.  It should include a very nice zebra print as well as lime, bright pink, and teal solids.  I have also pre-ordered new Moda collections which are due to be delivered in each of the coming months.  Since the holidays are rapidly approaching, you might want to remind your family that we also have gift certificates.
Our first class will be held on Thursday, October 20, from 5:30 pm until 9:00 pm.  Connie Boles will instruct on the “Disappearing Nine Patch” quilt (or throw).  As this class is almost full, we will probably have another class at a date/time to be determined.  Call me to register for classes.
Scheduled shop hours are Tuesday-Friday from 10:00 am until 5:30 pm and Saturday from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm.  The shop will be closed on Sunday and Monday.  If you would like to come check out the shop but can’t make it during these hours, give me a call and I’ll wait on you.
Look forward to seeing you and supplying your quilting needs.

The day has finally arrived!  Sew & Sew Quilt Shop, 216 Hubert Street, Cleveland, Texas is officially opened for business.  As the new owner of Sew & Sew, I would like to invite you and your friends to stop by to see all the wonderful new Moda fabrics.  For your quilting and piecing needs, we also have Gutermann threads, battings, and notions.
I am particularly excited about the new Moda Grunge fabrics.  These are 100% cotton and the colors are delicious!  The designs are somewhat similar to Batiks, but even better.
Sew & Sew will be open Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 5:30 pm. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.  The shop will be closed on Sunday and Monday.  Should a special need arise outside of these hours, I will be happy to accommodate your needs whenever possible.
As in the past, we will continue to have quilting classes at the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.  Evening classes will be available on Thursdays, and some classes may be held on Saturdays.  On non-school days, children’s classes can be taught when a parent, grandparent, or other adult can accompany the child.  Costs of each class will be determined by the instructor and the difficulty of the project.  In some cases, kits will be available.  All classes will be scheduled and/or cancelled through Sew & Sew.  If you have a special pattern that you wish to learn, let me know and I will find an instructor for a class.
No classes will be held on Wednesdays; instead, we encourage you to bring your sewing machine and unfinished projects to the shop and we’ll chat while we sew.   Usually, one of the instructors will be available in the event you need assistance with your project.  We will charge $5 for the Wednesday social to help defray the costs of air conditioning/heating.  This “$5 social” day will be extended to any day in which classes are not being held so that space will be available for you to sew.
As the holidays rapidly approach, you might want to start dropping hints about gift certificates from Sew & Sew.  They also make wonderful birthday (or any occasion) gifts.

I look forward to seeing each of you at Sew & Sew to share in the pleasure of creating a project worthy of passing down to future generations.
